Alison French, a young journalist, Neeta Patel, Delroy's family's solicitor, and Ben Weekes, a black youth worker, join forces to try and find out the truth about Delroy's death, but find themselves in growing danger, as they are drawn into a murky world of violent criminals and police informants.

My Review:-This book had me from the beginning. Delroy Brown is a young black man who is arrested and took to Brixton Police Station. Once at the station, DC Matthews and DC Jones question Delroy and after answering a few question, Delroy mentions a name 'Ice' but DC Matthews hears it wrong and asks who 'Eyes', at that  point Delroy shuts up, he's said to much already. Once the interview is finished, Delroy is taken to a cell. Not long after being in his cell the door opens and it's DC McKinnonn, but what does he want with Delroy? The alarm goes off in Delroy's cell and everyone rushes to his cell, but Delroy is lying on the floor dead. Alison French is works for Brixton Chronicle when she gets a message the a gentleman wants to speak to her about the man that has died in the police cell. Mr Bertie O'Connor had information that no one knew about, he was in the cell opposite Delroy's cell and knew something about Delroy's death. What really happened in Delroy's cell? There is so much happening, along with plenty of twists and turns. The author has done a great job with the storyline, even the inquest felt real not just a book.

Kate Thompsom-Blog Tour With A Difference

From The Library With Love
Kate Thompson-Blog Tour with A Difference
By Kate Thompson
Podcasts
Kate Thompson, author of The little Wartime Library and upcoming Wartime Book Club.
Kate has collaborated with Anne Cater to organise a blog tour with a difference.
Instead of books, to be reviewed it is podcast episodes. Kate dislikes the word podcast. What does it actually mean? It's very sterile. I prefer instead to think of my episodes as 'talking stories'. It just another way of indulging our love of stories and helping to press pause on life!
Wonderful. transformative things happen when you set foot in a library. In 2019 I uncovered the true story of a forgotten Underground library, built along the tracks of Bethnal Green Tube tunnel during the Blitz. As stories go, it was irresistible and the result was, The Little Wartime Library, my seventh novel. Bethnal Green Public Library, where the novel is set, was 100 years old in October 2022, and to celebrate the centenary of this grand old lady, funded by library philanthropist Andre Carnegie, I set myself the challenge of interviewing 100 library workers. Speaking with one library worker for every year this library has been serving its community seemed a good way to mark this auspicious occasion. Because who better to explain the worth of a hundred-year-old library, than librarians themselves! I quickly realised that librarians have the best stories. My research led me to librarians with over fifty years of experience, to the impressive women who manage libraries in prisons and schools, to those remote Scottish islands. From poetry libraries overlooking the wide sweep of the Thames, to the 16th century Shakespeare's Library in Stratford,  via the small but mighty Leadhills Miners' Library.
This podcast was born out of those eye-opening conversations, because as Denise from Tower Hamlets Library told me: 'If you want to see the world, don't join the Army, become a librarian!',
Ordinary people with extraordinary stories to share. Interviews up already:
📚100=year-old-Bletchley Park Codebreaker Betty Webb on keeping her wartime secrets
📚Bestselling author of The Beekeeper of Aleppo, Christy Lefteri on the importance of writing what you feel
📚New York Times bestselling author Madeline Martin on underground libraries and clandestine book club
📚October-Libraries week
📚'I was born in a concentration camp' A powerful interview with 78-year-old Eva Clarke,
📚December marks the 85th anniversary of Kindertransport scheme
📚National Letter Writing Day
Plus SO so many more.

My Review:-I have listened to a few of Kate's podcast (episodes) and found them informative, educational and fun. Kate talks about what she loves, but instead of writing these down for us to read, she tells them to us herself, a long with guests so we can listen to then in the form of a episode (pod cast). I loved 'From the Library With Love' with Liz McGuire who has over 1600 letters. Liz says letters are a way of living through history with letters for the past. Kate and Liz talk about how important letters are and have been. Liz's oldest letter is from1876, it talks about farming, how they price things. She has letters from a family in 1920, along with photos. The family had travelled on the Whitestar  and wrote letters about everything they did. Kate finds letters everywhere, at flee markets and online. Letter writing isn't something people do much now. I still write letters and have letters from when I was 16 when I moved from home, I would write home every week and my parents kept them. I found them when my parents died, they had them in a box in the bottom of the wardrobe, so I've added them to letters that I've received over the years.

David Attenborough is a national treasure, known for his soothing voice, calming presence, passion for the natural world, and his humble, easy-going nature. Despite his incredible talent and influence, he tends to play it all down, one time stating that, 'I can't believe I'm still employed'.

Courting Samira

Courting Samira
By Amal Awad
Genre:-Contemporary/Romance/Humour
Pages:-322
Publisher:-HarperVia
Blurb:-Set in Sydney, Australia, Courting Samira is a charming and frothy romantic comedy about a twenty-seven-year-old Palestinian woman who finds herself in an unexpected love triangle-a sparkling ode to meddling best friends, traditional courtship, The Princess Bride, and, of course, the possibility of love.
Coming from a moderately traditional Muslim family, twenty-seven-year-old Samira Abbel-Aziz has endured her fair share of arranged matches-first dates she calls "doorknock appeals," where she and her possible suitors eat snacks in her living room in the company of both sets of parents. Her general rule: no shoes with tassels, no cheesy leather jackets, no mustaches. A  girl has to have some standards, right? The truth is, Samira is already experiencing enough wedding drama as an assistant at Bridal Bazaar magazine and as a gofer for her soon-to-be-married-cousin and nemesis Zahra. She's not sure she needs to add any of her own.
When she meets the charismatic Menem at a work retreat, Samira finds herself intrigued. But her best friend Lara insists Menem isn't right for her, and now her childhood friend Hakeem has begun behaving oddly. Adding to the confusion, Samira is seeking a promotion at work, yet isn't sure it's the job of her dreams. Suddenly, her life is full of drama and complications, and she realizes that part of growing up is making difficult choices about what-and whom-she really wants.

Jasper is telling his story in letters to Gulliver each one has a different date and name explaining how he came to be with Foster. This book had me hooked from page one, building a story in great detail, making it more interesting as you turn each page. It was a easy read that I didn't want to put down. Can't wait until Book Two is out.

Let Them Float

Let Them Float
By Katy Wimhurst
Genre:-Short Stories/Magical Realism/Some Surrealism
Pages:-112
Publisher:-Alien Buddha Press
Blurb:-In these short stories, Katy Wimhurst creates off-killer worlds that illuminate our own. Apocalyptic rabbits invade a town. People overwhelmed by their lives float above an urban park. A woman turns transparent after a virus. The Messiah helps a grieving widow to garden. A retired man is desperate to see mermaids.
The playful lens of magical realism and surrealism is used to explore physical and mental illness and our fragile environment. Most stories are set at a tipping point, just as change happens to a character or events escalate. Though-provoking fiction with a good dose of wry humour and whimsy.
Endorsements
"Kathy Wimhurst's stories are enchanting. They appear beguilingly simple yet contain layers of meaning and mystery. The author's inventive interpretations of familiar situations give any reader fresh insights into their own experiences. Even with dark subjects, there are always sparks of hope and humour.'-Dorothy Schwartz, author of Behind a Glass Wall.
'Kathy Wimhurst combines charming whimsy with weighty environmental and psychological issues and, in the balance, she delights and surprises the reader. Rich imagination and fresh, clean writing.'-Petra McQueen, founder of The Writers' Company.

My Review:-This book is a collection of short stories. These stories are a mixture of magical and ones that we can relate to. I found 'Duskers' was so close to what a lot of people go through everyday, with chronic illness and trying to find someone that can understand just what it is like. I have chronic illness and like Helena in the book was gaslighted by the doctors. I also enjoyed 'Disillusioned by Mermaids', It was nice for a book to have stories about chronic illness as it's something that isn't spoken about as much as it should be, thank you for that.
There is a book that you can pick up and down. There is something for everyone.

Bliss Road

Bliss Road
By Martha Engber
Genre:-Non-fiction/Memoir
Publisher:- Vine Leaves Press
Blurb:- BLISS ROAD is the story of a neurotypical daughter of an undiagnosed Autism Spectrum Disorder parent. Sometimes funny, often devastating, Martha Engber's honest and moving memoir illuminates the parent-child challenge presented by a neurological condition that affects over 75 million people worldwide.
A hybrid of poetry and essays, Ms. Engber uses personal anecdotes, coupled with historical research and current statistics, to explain the emergence of autism over the last hundred years. She includes the birth of Asperger's, or high-functioning autism, as a formal diagnosis in 1994, the year her young nephew's condition was determined.
After describing the psychological, emotional and social challenges she faced as a child, then as an adult and parent, she explains the method by which she changed her thinking and behaviour to both celebrate her parents and heal. She ends by encouraging others to chase down the source of their family angst to reach a more blissful future.
A fascinating and encouraging journey of discovering the seemingly undiscoverable, Bliss Road combines the intimacy and warmth of Tuesday With Morrie and the empowerment demonstrated by Shonda Rhimes in Year of Yes!

Seventeen-year-old Leigh awakens from cryosleep to discover she's part of the first human colony in another solar system. The cryosleep is flawed. It kills adults and causes partial amnesia. As a result, the nations of Earth have launched into space an unlikely group—teenagers with no memory of volunteering for the mission.
Ten light-years from home, they land on a planet largely covered by water. The good news: some water is drinkable. The bad news: none of their technology works. As the colonists struggle to survive, strange debris washes ashore, and a surprising discovery challenges everything they thought they knew. With a makeshift raft and meager supplies, Leigh and a small band of explorers venture across the open ocean in search of answers.
But the truth may be more than they bargained for, especially for Leigh, who’s been lying to everyone since she arrived . . .

My Review:-We have 12 beautiful poems about Births and Beginnings. A poem for the 12 days of Christmas. The book is set out in four sections- Rebirth, Reconnect, Renew and Rejoice. Each poem has an illustrations and a blank page, (which I found myself writing how the poem made me feel). I read these poems in one sitting, but  Soaring was one of the poems I've went back to a few more times. This would make a lovely gift, especially those that love poetry.

My Review:-This is the first book I've read from the author, Lucy Martin, but will be looking for more from her. This is Book Three in DS Ronnie (Veronica) Delmar  detective series. I didn't feel like I have missed anything with not reading the other two books. Ronnie is a single mother with two children and has a few insecurities, including where she works. A woman falls from her third floor balcony and its up to Ronnie to find out who and why. Ronnie is good at her job, even when she has to work with people she doesn't like or gets on with. Ronnie is a strong woman and doesn't care what people think of her. I love how Lucy makes you think it could be any of the main characters, but you will have to read the book to find out just who done it. I love Lucy's storyline, she has you guessing and just when you think you know who did it, you find out you're wrong. Anyone that loves crime fiction will love this book.

My Review:- When I seen the cover of this book I knew it would be a great one for my granddaughter Emily. Flossy Fin is Queen of the Seas. Flossy didn't brush her teeth or take care of them. Mama Fin told Flossy she was going to see Dr Dribble the Dentist, Flossy thought it was really scary. Dr Dribble didn't do sharks teeth, so he told Mama Fin and Flossy a Great White Lie, which made Flossy swim away and hide. Dr Dribble felt bad for telling them a great white lie and decided to go and visit them at home.  Dr Dribble was really gentle and made sure that it didn't hurt. When Dr Dribble had finished Flossy was happy again and so was Dr Dribble. This is a great book for children of all ages (even I enjoyed it). The illustrations are bright and colourful with plenty to talk about and even to make your own story up. This would be a lovely book for children that don't like going to the dentist, it shows that it doesn't have to be scary. Emily Loved Ms Oops the Octopus.
