My Review:-Take control of your life with the help of Philip Wride. In Activity #1 he asks you to create your TALE, which will help you to start to move forward. Philip shares the 12 chains of knowledge, speed, convenience, relationships, priorities, responsibilities, location, time, risk, fear, perception, and pressure. At the beginning Philip explains TALE-Time, Activities, Location, and Experience. . Each of the 12 chains provides you with explanations, as well as the whys and why nots, we all ask ourselves. Throughout the book Philip has added activities to help you to move forward.  I did like how Philip spoke about his own personal struggles and how he moved forward.

How Not To Be A Super Model

How Not To Be A Super Model
By Ruth Crilly
Genre:-Biography/humour
Pages:-384
Publisher:-Blink Publishing (Bonnier Books)
Blurb:-Join Ruth Crilly in this comic memoir as she teeters through the noughties and lifts the lid on her days as an international fashion model. Told with unparalleled wit and remarkable detail, this is a book for anyone who dreams big and aims high but never quite reaches their goal. At twenty years old, five feet eight and with boobs that were 'inconveniently fulsome', Ruth was not quite young enough, tall enough or wilf-like enough to ever hope for a meteoric rise to supermodel status. And yet her sheer optimism and questionable grasp on reality led her to abandon her law degree and begin a career with one of the biggest agencies in the world.
Follow Ruth through a rip-roaring, hilarious decade of not0quite-making-it as a supermodel. Fuelled by little more than cigarettes and the stress of her spiralling dept she criss-crosses the world in pursuit of fame and fortune. But how far is she willing to go to for this wildly unrealistic dream?
Bridget Jones meets the Devil Wears Prada, How Not to be a Supermodel is a time capsule of a book that dives into one of the world's most fascinating industries. Offering a glimpse into both the high glamour and juddering reality of s by-gone era, this comic memoir tackles the darkest of subjects with the very lightest touch and injects humour and a heart-warming honesty into a story that could have so easily ended a different way

My Review:-Ruth Crilly had started a law degree, until she sticks a photo of herself in a box in Birmingham and is scouted by one of the top agencies in the world. Ruth takes us on her journey on how modelling work was like in the noughties, to what it is now. She explains the good along with the bad sides of trying to becoming a model. Ruth knew it wasn't going to be easy, but this shows us just what it's like with traveling the world, magazines, clothes and outfits that she was expected to model. Ruth also shares the humour along the way. It is definitely is Bridget Jones meets the Devil Wears Prada.

All Boats Are Skinning

All Boats Are Skinning
By Hannah Pierce
Genre:-Non Fiction/Travel Writing/Humour
Pages:-368
Publisher:-Summersdale
Blurb:-"All Boats Are Sinking, Hannah, just at different rates."
After a break-up, some hit the gym; some cut their hair; others have a one-night stand. In the aftermath of her break-up, Hannah bought a narrowboat. Newly single and plunged into life on the water, Hannah had to learn quickly how to grapple with exploding toilets, disappearing hulls, and the curious glances and questions from pedestrians on the towpath.
But when career burn-out, a global pandemic and an ill-advised rebound relationship threatened to sink her, Hannah felt the need to escape. In a bid to leg go of the past and restore her sense of self-worth, she embarked on a narrowboat odyssey which took her from the tranquil yet dramatic waterways of West Yorkshire.
Suffering from an apparent magnetism to drama but buoyed by her brilliant friends, Hannah tells of the challenges of off-grid life as a single 30-something on the water. All this as she tries to balance the tension between owning her singledom and giving in to a deep desire to find love. Peppered with lists, recipes, maps, footnotes and diagrams, and spanning hundreds of miles of the British waterways, All Boats Are Sinking is an uplifting and often hilarious story of adventure and personal growth, and of a woman trying to keep her boat and life afloat.

My Review:-After becoming single, Hannah knew she wasn't going to be able to afford the prices of somewhere to live in London, even with help from her parents. What she did next surprised everyone, Hannah decided to buy a narrowboat. But it's not as simple as buying the narrowboat and sailing away, Hannah soon finds out there is a lot more to it and a lot of work as well.
Even though Hannah started on the water in London, she soon felt she needed to escape from everything. As she navigates the network of canals and locks along the English countryside, even through the Covid pandemic, Hannah puts her journey down on paper. Hannah's journey wasn't just a journey on water but also a story of personal growth and self discovery, especially at a time when we were all worried about what was going on in the world and around us. I found it an interesting and enjoyable read

Seeing Dead

Seeing Dead
By Edgar D Jackson
Genre:-Sci-Fi/Mystery/Crime
Pages:-644
Publisher:-IolandaPress
Blurb:-The street in Gealblath, Scotland, was the same as it had been every day. None of the players had changed. None of the scenery. It was like a painting on a wall.
And there, where the path began to dip, the school bus arrived at the place it normally arrived. It would be there for two minutes only, and so Charlie began to jog. He spotted his friend sitting near the rear window and an empty seat beside him.
The fact there remained an empty seat soon, became a fact that haunted the town he lived in.
It was on a foggy day in 1988 that Charlie Cooper made his way to the school bus for the last time.
Ten years have passed since then, and what remains is a town faded by missing person posters. An empty seat in local police station. A father who has become an unwanted ghost, sipping cold ones in the corner of woodland tavern. And, apart from that, there is a girl. Amee Florence is thirteen, with mousy grey hair and a cool, pale complexion. She's starting here first day at school, but she's nothing like the other children. There's a secret behind her eyes that she keeps hidden. A secret that could help unfog that day in 1988, and reveal the real reason Charlie Cooper never came home.

My Review:-I just want to say don't let the 644 pages put you off, just keep reading and you won't be disappointed.
This book has a bit of everything...mystery, sci-fi, horror, secrets, lies and even some humour. Charlie Cooper seen the school bus pull up, he knew he only had two minutes to get on the bus before it would pull away. His friend was sitting near the rear window next to an empty seat (something for you to remember). Ten years later and nothing has changed since that day Charlie disappeared. 13 year old Amee Florence is a new girl at school, but Amee isn't like any of the other girls at school, she has a secret. Will Amee's secret help solve the disappearance of Charlie on that day in 1988, does she know something that someone is hidden? Is what happened still got something to do with someone that lives near by?  It's a book that I really want to tell you more about but I don't want to give anything away. I had to read it in a few sittings, but putting it down wasn't easy and had me thinking even when I wasn't reading it.

Blurb:-Benidorm, actually is a romantic comedy, recently shortlisted for the Comedy Women in Print Awards. It is the first book in the Benidorm Series.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, we will shortly be arriving in Alicante.
Please ensure your big lips and heavy eyebrows are securely fastened, your eyelashes are stowed in the upright position and your leg tattoos are clearly visible for landing."
Connie Cooper's classical music career is at a dead-end. She's singing cheap covers to a sea of bald heads and the nearest she has been to a romantic relationship in years is watching the Bridgerton buttocks scene on a continuous loop.
The last thing she needs is to be on a flight to Benidorm with strict instructions to impress the boss of Jezebel Music. But as she tries to keep up with support band, The Dollz, and the constant flashmob dancing, the going out in less than you'd wear on the beach and their obsession with the promiscuous bearded-Nuns in the villa next door, the boss seems less and less impressed.
The clock is ticking. She's meant to be finding her voice, not finding his brooding good-looks irresistibly attractive...How can she show him that she has what it takes to succeed?
That's right. Instead of just being herself, she'll follow The Dollz' advice to dress like a low-rent stripper and impress him by pole-dancing on top of a table full of drinks.
 What could go wrong?

My Review:-After the death of her mother, Connie Cooper who is a classical singer is finding it hard to carry on with her life. Her father has found a new less of life, wearing a shirt and tie with Jeans, dying his hair the colour of hummus and now heading to the Lake District with Madge, someone he met at the local hiking club. After having a not so good night at a special job that her agent Nanny lined up for her, she now got nothing, that is until she gets a call from Nanny to say she has one last job, take it or leave...Liam drops Connie off at the airport and head her towards the terminal with only her carry-on case in hand. The Dollz are standing waiting at the door, you can't miss them. Hi, I'm Connie was all she could think of....was it going to be this simple, I don't think so, this is only the start of the fun and games. There is so much happening from start to finish, you'll not want to put it down, I read it in one sitting. Can Connie overcome everything she once feared and become a different person with the help of The Dollz and not forgetting Muatteo.  I'm 100% Geordie, so I could relate to everything so easily.

As a must-read potential patients, nurse, doctors, and anybody who wants to have a laugh as they gain a deeper insight into what goes on inside hospitals, Deadish is an absurd and hilarious read that uses black comedy to uncover the authentic stories of the medical world.

My Review:-HILARIOUS from start to finish. Ashley and Chris, are two junior surgeons in Serenity Hospital, a bit like any NHS hospital. They take us on a hilarious read, some dark humour, but not all. We see how medical staff react with patients, families and also with each other. Having spent the last four years in and out of hospital, I found I could relate to some of the things they tells us. I would recommend it to anyone related in the medical field. I'll be handing this to the nurses on the ward I'm gong on next.

But a fresh menace is creeping around the lakeshore and the lanes of the town, and the peace of the community is about to be shattered in an unimaginable way. Young people are being drawn towards the promise of fast money whilst the generation above them tries to push back the tide of an enemy no one can touch...

My Review:-Madness comes circling around. Ten years, has the local Irish close knit community real changed? Donal Ryan has gave 21 voices a chapter to their life. Things are passed down through generations, both the good and the bad. Family history, love, beliefs and prejudices...each of their stories are told differently, yet are they really any different to the past.  Even in a small community there is still blackmail, drug dealing and organized crime. The book starts with Bobby, after going away on a stag night to Amsterdam, he comes home to find that there's a compromising photo of him, and it's not just him that sees the photo, it's been posted on WhatsApp for all his friends to see. Bobby also has a secret from Triona, he visits her mother, his mother-in-law two or three times a week on his way home, as she is dying and in a hospice. The book ends with Triona, she knows about Bobby visiting her mother but says nothing. Triona mother died the day after an explosions at Mickey's house. I loved reading the book, even though I've never read any of Donal other books, I found the book still easy to follow.

My Review:-This is the second in the JJ Jenson series. The books starts telling us the story from 10 years ago that JJ Jenson worked on, with a bit of help from Davie George, about Daniel Boyd, a seven-year-old boy going to the park with his two older brother, Jason and Terry. Daniel goes missing with two suspects Charles David Creswell and Mr Bryn Jenkins, it's not long before Creswell is found dead, as well as his house being burn down. Because of this case JJ left the police force, but it still haunts him about what happened with Daniel and the out came. Which you'll have to read for yourself as I'm not given any spoilers away with this one. This book I found a lot more interesting and a excellent storyline, something to get your teeth into. There is enough twist and turns to keep you going, which made me read it in one sitting. Even this is a dual timeline, it's easy to follow, but I would say read the first book if you can as it's a great series.

Fire and Bones

Fire and Bones:- The Temperance Brennan Series
By Kathy Reichs
Genre:-Crime Thriller
Pages:-288
Publisher:-Simon and Schuster
Blurb:-FROM SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE TEMPERANCE BRENNAN SERIES
IT'S NEVER EASY WORKING FIRE SCENES.
Called to Washington, DC to analysethe victims of a mysterious arson attack, Tempe quickly finds her misgivings justified. The fire site is in Foggy Bottom, a neighbourhood with a colourful history, and as the pieces start falling into place, the property's ownership becomes more and more suspicious.
Sensing a good story, Tempe teams up with a new ally, telejournalist Ivy Doyle. Delving into the past, the duo learns that back in the Thirties and Forties the home was the hangout of a group of bootleggers and racketeers known as the Foggy Bottom Gang. Though interesting, the fact seems irrelevant-until the son of one of the gang members is shot dead at his farm in Virginia.
When another Foggy Bottom Gang-linked property burns to the ground, claiming one more victim, what might have been coincidence starts to look more like targeted attacks. As she and Ivy dig deeper, Tempe's instincts point towards the obvious: somehow, her every move since coming to Washington has been anticipated in advance. And every path forward brings with it a lethal threat.
 Praise for Kathy Reichs

My Review:-Wow, 'Fire and Bones' is Book 23 in the 'Temperance Brennan Series', but this is my first. Tempe's is a forensic anthropologist, she is called to Foggy Bottom, Washington, DC to analyse victims of a mysterious arson attack.  Teaming up with telejournalist Ivy Doyle, they decide to look deeper into the fire, It's not long before they find out that in the 30s and 40s the build was once used by bootleggers and racketeers, known as Foggy Bottom Gang. It's not long before the son of one of the old gang is found dead on his farm in Virginia. Tempe's knows it's connected, she just needs to find out why and who is involved, also why does it feel like someone is one step in front of her every time. I love Kathy's writing style and great descriptions she puts into the story. She knows how to pull you in and keep you turning the pages, which had me reading the book in one day. I can't wait to see what Kathy has in store for the next book, I'm going to look for others by her.

There is so much to talk about within the book, but also topics that are similar. We also spoke about us starting from a seed and how we grow and decide what path we go along. This is a book for both young and older children. We ended up talking about the book for a few days, as my grandchildren kept asking questions which I was happy to answer and talk about.

My Review:- This is a dual timeline. Two women have to decide what is going to be best for themselves, searching for what life can give to them and show them how their life can be if they step out of their own comfort zone.
Gun lives with her mother and Nana in the same seaside town she has lived her whole life. Tawrie wants more, and decides to take up wild swimming, which means she will swim every morning March to September with a group of swimmers known by the 'Peacock Swimmers'.
Twenty years ago Harriet Stratton had to decided what was best for her children, Dilly and Bear as well as herself. Even moving away to Ilfracombe seals to try and save her marriage after finding out her husband, Hugo had been unfaithful to her. But thing don't always work out no matter how much you try.
I love Amanda's writing style, she put her whole self into this beautiful and heartwarming story.

My Review:-Looking in from the outside, Sasha Fulton has everything she could possibility needed, a great career in media, a happy marriage and perfect children. But to Sasha she's feels like she's having a break down, everything is getting to much for her and she needs help...Could Sasha's new assistant, Jenna really be what she needs to help her get but to normal or is there more to Jenna than meets the eye?
I love the storyline of this book, two women that wants what the other one has, both of them devious and manipulative. Are these women really who you think they are?  I thought I knew what was going to happen, but I was totally wrong, plenty of twists and turns that will keep you turning the pages till the end.

The Four Horsemen

The Four Horsemen
By Rupert Stanbury
Genre:-Greek & Roman/Humorous Fiction
Pages:-337
Blurb:-The Four Horsemen is the second book in the Gods Galore series about the Olympian Gods in the 21st Century.
The Gods are still trying to control what we humans are up to. Unfortunately, they're not being particularly successful. The world is experiencing both plague and famine which Zeus and the Gods' Council never approved, What's going on?
Athene is determined to find out, but before she can get going the God of War initiates an attack on Poseidon's realm. It's now all out conflict and the gods are taking sides-one side, in particular.
Whenever there's a fight, Hebe's bound to be involved. She soon signs up to an army regiment which is full of soldiers even smaller than she is. But war these days involves brains and not just brawn and there's plenty of both ready to be deployed on this fight!
A mixture of Comedy and Fantasy, The Four Horsemen should appeal to readers of Terry Pratchett and Rick Riordan (Perry Jackson).
Rupert Stanbury is a Cambridge graduate who previously had a professional and business career. He has always been an avid reader and recently decided to take up writing himself. His first book, Gods Galore, was published in November 2021.

My Review:-This is Book Two in the 'Gods Galore' series about the Olympian Gods in the 21st Century AD. I had the pleasure of reading and review Rupert's first book and this one hasn't disappointed me. This book can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend reading book one first. This book is filled to the brim with humour and laughter, which we all need. Rupert has brought the Gods and Goddesses into the 21st Century  in a way that only he could do. We have Mars, in talks with Tyrant of Tyrantland to start a war. I do like Death the most, especially when he's thinking about a Mrs Death and retiring to Bournemouth, as well as having to hand down all he knows to Mister Death. It's definitely Death having a mid-death crisis. I'm not going to give anything away, this is a book that you have to read for yourself, and make sure your not around a lot of people because once you start to laugh you won't stop
I've never been one for the Greek Gods, not even at school, but Rupert puts a different light on them, one that you can't help but love them.

Whispers Of The Dead

Whispers Of The Dead
By Lin Anderson
Genre:-Crime Thriller/Police Procedural
Pages:-416
Publisher:-Pan Macmillan
Blurb:-"Forensic scientist Rhona MacLeod has become one of the most satisfying characters in modern crime fiction" Daily Mail
When a movie star goes missing while filming their latest blockbuster in Glasgow, Rhona MacLeod and her team must investigate.
In the dead of night, a man's body is found strapped to a chair in Glasgow's Elder Park, his identity unknown. As forensic scientist Rhona MacLeod examines the scene, the violence on display suggests a gangland feud could be the cause. At the post-mortem, a bullet engraved with a snake's head is found in the man's stomach, lending weight to the theory.
Elsewhere in the city, a major Hollywood movie is being filmed. But shooting comes to a standstill when it's lead actor is reported missing. As the news spreads, Police Scotland believe the two cases may be connected.
DS Michael McNab thinks the key to finding those responsible could be the film itself. A storyline playing out in real-life on the streets of Glasgow with a killer intent on revenge at any cost. A vendetta which must be paid in blood...

My Review:-Rhona MacLeod a forensic scientist has been teaching a an women prison, that's where she meets Marnie Aitken, a woman that goes missing not long after her release from prison.
A group of friends find a man's body in s deserted farmhouse, but that's not makes them run, he is naked, tied to a chair, with his mouth and eyes sewn up.
A missing movie star goes missing while filming, but nobody knows anything.
It's up to Rhona, DS Clark, DS McNab and Chrissy McInsh to work together and find out if there is a link between all three. It's not going to be easy, but as they start looking closer, more starts adding up. I'm not giving anything away. This is a MUST READ book, the storyline is excellent, full with twists and turns throughout. I can wait to see what Lin has instore for us next.
