Mister Mishkins' Apothecary

Mister Mishkins' Apothecary
By Samantha Mattocks
Illustrated By:-Gerda Smit
Genre:-Children's Fiction
Age:-8-12 years
Blurb:-Mister Mishkins is a magical cat who runs an Apothecary on Mosaic Street-a place that mysteriously appears in town overnight and is only visible to those in need.
Whenever anyone enters the Apothecary, Mister Mishkins listens as they share their troubles and fears, before turning to the rows of wooden drawers where, hidden within, is an eclectic mix of cats.
These cats take whoever needs them on a journey of transformation, replacing negative emotions with hope, optimism, and a small sprinkling of magic.

My Review:-The book begins with a boy named Luca at the park, he goes to the park because at home his older brother and sister picks on him and his parents are always to busy to spend time with him. The park is his happy place. Going higher on the swing, Luca is a rainbow over the houses and goes to find it. Opening the door Luca is met with Mister Mishkins a cat, but not just any cat a magical cat. They start talking when the bell above the door rings and in rushes Gemma, 'Thunder' that was why Gemma had rushed in she didn't like thunder. Gemma get's to meet Jasper, another cat, who takes her on a journey. I'm not saying anymore as it's for you to discover where Jasper takes Gemma and why. Each chapter has a different part of the book, but all linked together through Mister Mishkins. This is a beautiful story for both children young and old, along with illustrations help tell the story, especially with younger children. I shared this book with my grandchildren and we all loved it. The story takes the bad things away and replaces it with happiness, joy and hope, along with a little bit of magic.
