My Review:-This is Book Four in 'The Seacastle Mysteries' I've had the pleasure of reading and review the other three books in the series. I've been waiting for this book coming out to see what PJ had instore for us and I wasn't disappointed. I don't want to say to much as I don't like spoiling the plot for anyone, so all I will say is Tanya has another murder to solve, but this one is closer to home than she wants it to be, but it's not going to stop her. PJ has added twists that will think you have it, but you won't, not till the end. I would highly recommend that you read the full series, you'll definitely won't be disappointed.

My Review:-This is Book Four and the final one in 'The Younglings' series. You could read this as a standalone but I would highly recommend that you read all four books, because you won't be disappointed. Helen has done it again with this book, with plenty of mystery and magic. Throughout this story you will met vampires, demons, ghosts, witches and shape-shifting wolves. Its hard to believe that we are at the end of a great series that has taken us along all four books. I can say much without given things away, but I will say what an end, Helen has kept for us.

Genre:-Children's Book

Publisher:-Majeeko Books
Blurb:-Everyone knows Robin Hood-the hotshot with his bow, but he had a litter brother which, perhaps, you didn't know. Whilst Robin was the wonder kid with skill and charm and looks,  his quiet brother Ronnie, liked science, maths and books.
Everybody knows about the folklore hero Robin Hood, but this book shines a light on Robin's (up-until-now) unknown little brother, Ronnie, and the important role he played in this classic.
Robin and Ronnie couldn't be more different, but they love each other to bits and want each other to succeed. If only they could find a way to combine their talents and become an unstoppable team?...
This book was written to help children embrace their differences and to encourage them to play to their own strengths instead of always comparing themselves to others and feeling inadequate or insecure. It's about sibling love, friendship, rivalry and teamwork.

My Review:-My granddaughter Emily and I decided to read this book as one of her bedtime stories. This is Emily's review:-I didn't know that Robin Hood had a little brother, Ronnie. Ronnie is very good at things to do with maths, I've been doing angles at school and it's not easy. I liked how Ronnie helped his big brother to win and get the highest score for the school, because he made him a really good bow and arrows. Just because they are brothers doesn't mean you've got to like the same things because we are all different. the story rhymed which I liked, it made it fun to read. Me and my Nana liked talking about the pictures that's in the book.

My Review:-Jersey, 1943. This book is based on real events. Grace La Mottee, a librarian ordered by the Germans to destroy all the books that didn't work for them, but Grace has other plans for the books, one that means the books will be saved and also safe. With the help of her friend and postwoman Bea Rose, they decide they need to hide the books. The women knew they had to fit a way to keep the books hidden, but also be available for others that wanted to save them. It wasn't long before Grace and Bea found a way to disguise the books within the pages of ordinary books that they were allowed to keep. There is a lot more to this story than books. The story shows how much courage that the people from the island had and were prepared to go to, to keep what was important to them. This book is full of emotion.

My Review:-There is a bit of everything it this book, obsession, jealousy, heatache and of course a few twists. We have two timelines, as well as two points of view. A widowed, Rosemary Caradon is bring the last few children home to London after WW2, she had the children staying in her Devonshire manor with Jasmine her daughter and herself. But Rosemary was worried about Jasmine being lonely after having other children around for so long. On the train back home, they meet Briar, a ballet dancer, her daughter seemed to like her but Rosemary wasn't sure. After agreeing that Jasmine could visit Briar at Sadler's Wells, there was still something worrying Rosemary. Briar has a story of her own, but why is Briar so interested in Jasmine. You can't help but love the characters, even the ones you didn't want to. I found it a easy and enjoyable read.

On his adventure Rich goes through Spring Garden where he hears voices saying 'why is his face red', Misty Mountain with a 'Go Away' sign, Wandering Woods with a giant, but he couldn't find a leprechaun. Blurb:-Tristan/Yseult is a narrative poem about the yearning for oneness in a world spilt into fragments.
A duel on an empty island sets the course for one of the greatest romances ever told. As the lovers of legend meet, something new is born, and something eternal is revealed.  Their names will forever be spoken as one.
This modern retelling of Tristan and Yseult sheds a stark light on the beauty of the Celtic tale.
"Harry Bonelle's new version taps into the dark and furious energy of the sage, surging and juddering with life. Bonelle's actor's training has encouraged him to liberate the performance piece that its original author must have intended. Thrilling on the page, but even more so spoken loud."

Freeborn Girls

Freeborn Girls
By Sally Keeble
Genre:-Historical/Contemporary Time Slip
Pages:-288
Blurb:-"Did life ever deal you a real wild card?"
It's June 2019 and London's in turmoil. But steely MP Frances Quilter is distracted from affairs of state by affairs of the heart: a new love affair and the demands of her ailing mother.
So, when trouble erupts on the Cooper, a sink estate in her south London constituency, Frances misjudges the public mood-with fatal consequences. Disaster looms.
Once the Cooper estate was idyllic farmland, beloved home of the Gardiner family. But when the English Civil War erupts, the farm is attacked and the family members scattered. One, a feisty girl called Elizabeth, is sold as an indentured labourer and in 1643 boards a sailing ship for the perilous voyage to America.
In "Freedom Girls," former MP Sally Keeble weaves a captivating story of intrigue, love and adventure following the fortunes of Frances and Elizabeth: two women separated by almost 400 years of history-but linked by a twist of fate. Can Frances salvage her career, or her love affair? Does Elizabeth survive? And who's the enigmatic American who arrives in London to intern for Frances that eventful summer?
A page-turner of a timeslip novel for readers of historical fiction books about women finding freedom in tough times

But Agnes, Ezekiel wife speaks up that Elizabeth would be a great help for her, she'll be able to help with her children and then when you has the new baby that she was carrying she can help with that as well.
Frances Quilter MP is in her office on the third floor in Portcullis House Parliament, shaking hands with Stephanie Gardiner, her American intern. Two incredible and fascinating stories of freedom. I loved learning and reading about the history of London.

My Review:-Jubilee, run by the Al Douglas, a parallel universe, where you can do as you please. When Col and Danee are suddenly sent to Jubilee to collect a body of a politician who has died, they expected it to be a easy job, but how wrong can it be. The body is waiting for Col and Danee, but there is a problem, it's not the right body, someone has swapped this body before they got there.
Col's wife goes missing as well, and Cole and Danee are put in the frame for murder. Has this something to do with the missing body that was swapped and if so, who is behind it and most importantly why?
This is a detective crime story but also a sci-fi one. The pace of the story was a bit slow at the begin but soon picked up speed, with some humour and romance.  The characters were interesting and likeable.

My Review:-This is Book Three of the 'Leopard's Bane' series. I've had the pleasure of reading and reviewing Book One and Two. I would like to say a big thank you to Phill for given us another great book. I've been looking forward in seeing what happened to Yalka and Peglar, but also what would become of Ragul and his mother Vancia.  Nothing was going to be safe for Yalka and Peglar if they stayed together. Being imprisoned by Peglar's stepmother Vanica and his half brother Ragul, Yalka knows she needs to get out and that's up to Eylese to get her free, but not everything goes to plan. Will Yalka and Peglar ever be able to be together again and be free of Ragul and Vancia. Sorry I don't do spoilers, you need to read it yourself to find out what becomes of them all. All I will says is the lover between Yalka and Peglar is so strong and real that you can feel it, because of Phill being a great writer.

How Boys Learn

How Boys Learn
By Jeff Kirchick
Genre:-Contemporary
Pages:-180
Publisher:-Atmosphere Press
Blurb:-In today’s world, young men grapple with concepts like “toxic masculinity” that often lead to self-doubt and aimlessness. Such ideologies can push them toward negative influences online or unproductive behaviours. How Boys Learn by Jeff Kirchick presents a different perspective, delving into the nuanced journeys boys navigate. These stories offer insight into friendships, relationships, sexuality, and the quest to become better individuals.
Kirchick’s collection captures diverse experiences: from a conflicted teenage wrestler in rural Pennsylvania to a post war society designed to curb “bad ideas,” and a doctor’s encounters with family and an unusual patient. Love is the overarching theme, whether it’s the characters’ connections with others or their pursuit of self-love.
Originally penned in 2010 under the guidance of esteemed author Edmund White at Princeton University, these tales have been refined for a wider audience. Kirchick’s aim is to impart lessons on struggle, humanity, and discovering love in unexpected corners. How Boys Learn invites readers to explore the complexities of growing up and finding love amid life’s challenges

My Review:-'How Boys Learn' is an intriguing anthology of seven short stories. Having five boys I was interested to see what this book would bring. A book about teenage boys/men and some things they go through-growing up, relationship, depression, need to be accepted, eating disorders and mental health, as well as everyday challenges they have to cope with. I found it thought provoking and interesting to a point that it left me thinking after I finished it.

Point Zero

Point Zero
By Seichō Matsumot
Translated By:-Louise Heal Kawai
Genre:-Crime Fiction/Translated Fiction
Pages:-288
Publisher:-Bitter Lemon Press
Blurb:-Tokyo, 1958. Teiko marries Kenichi Uhara, ten years her senior an advertising man recommended by a go-between. After a four-day honeymoon, Kenichi vanishes. Teiko travels to the coastal and snow-bound city of Kanazawa, where Kenichi was last seen, to investigate his disappearance. When Kenichi's brother comes to help her, he is murdered, poisoned in his hotel room.
Soon, Teiko discovers that her husband's disappearance is tied up with the so-called "pan-pan girls", women who worked as prostitutes catering to American GIs after the war. Now, ten years later, as the country is recovering, there are those who are willing to take extreme measures to hide the past.
"A master crime writer...Seichō Matsumoto's thrillers dissect Japanese society,"-The New York Times Book Review.
  • A triumph by Seicho Matsumoto, the master of Japanese mystery writing. A beautifully written crime novel that takes on the taboo of Japanese prostitution catering to GIs during the American post-war occupation
  • First published in Japanese in 1959, the novel abandoned the template of  closed-room mysteries so popular in pre-war Japan to embrace social criticism
  • In a radical departure from tradition, the novel has a female protagonist, a housewife seeking to find her missing husband. Respectful of the proprieties expected of a Japanese woman of the time, but stubborn, intrepid and a naturally intuitive sleuth.

My Review:-This is Book One of two in 'Apokeri Bay Series'.  This is a well wrote book that will transport you to a beautiful village of Apokeri Bay. The way Jackie describes the village, characters and the island made you feel like you have been yourself and you can still picture it when you close your eyes. Because of Jackie's writing style it is a easy read and I felt like I've become friends with Anna, especially with being a Geordie myself.  Even though Anna was only here in Apokeri Bay to try and sort her life out, it becomes more than that, she falls in love with everything about the place. Even though it's a beautiful place it does hide many secrets. With twists and turns along the way, will Anna still want to stay? I can't wait to read more from Jackie Wilson
