Publisher:-Vintage
Blurb:-WIFE, HUSBAND, BEST FRIEND. What if your two favourite people hated each other with a passion?
"A 2023 SUNDAY TIMES, STYLIST AND I-D BOOK TO WATCH OUT FOR"
A nice house, a carefree life, a doting husband, a best friend who never leaves your side. What more could you ask for? There's one problem: your husband and best friend love you, but they hate each other.
Set over a single day, husband, wife and best friend Temi toe the lines of compromise and betrayal. Told in three parts, three people's lives, and their visions of themselves and one another begin to slowly unravel, until a startling discovery throws everyone's integrity into question.
Full of intrigue, idiosyncratic wit and a healthy dose of wealth and snobbery The Three of Us is part-suburban millennial comedy of manners and part-domestic noir that will leave you wondering: whose side are you on?

My Review:-This is a story about three people, The Wife, The Husband and Temi The Best Friend. The story is told to us by each of them, starting with the wife. Best friends for years and always being there for each other, then you add a husband into it, things aren't that simple as you will find out as you read each of the stories. Who would you be rooting for? There is so much I could tell you about this story but I don't want to spoil it for you. There is plenty of laughs a long the way. I will say that I did find some of the things the husband said was a bit childish, especially when it came to Angela the cleaner. This is a book you need to pop into your holiday bag or sit and read it in the garden like I did. You need to read it, you won't be disappointed.

My Review:-This is the 2nd book that I've had the pleasure of reviewing. My 13-year-old granddaughter helped with Paul's 1st book and has asked if she can help again, so this is her review. We meet Terry's little sister Tracey in this book. Tracey having problems with how she feels, as she's missing her Dad. The toaster is what Tracey goes inside of this time. Tracey meets Sam the Titfur a bird, and it's his job to get her to Peter Smith (Wimpole the Wizard) to get her back home. We have some great sign posts in this book as we did in Paul's first book. After falling into a cauldron the smokes got thicker and thicker, then all of a sudden it disappears and Tracey can hear someone shouting her name, Who was it? if you read if you will find out. This book is a great read and helps with feelings and emotions. It's a book that I will recommend to my friends.

My Review:-Norman takes us on a journey through his eyes. The book starts with an Illustration by Fiona Wilson showing Ancient Norman 4500BC to Modern Norman 1900-Present. Norman shows us just how hard it has been and still is to be a writer. From writing on stone to now on paper or online, it's still a hard thing to get into. I loved the little illustrations that are throughout the boy. It was on interesting read and many laughs along the way. This would be a great gift for any writer or upcoming writer.

Maybe You Should Give Up

Maybe You Should Give Up: 7 Ways to Get Out of Your Own Way and Take Control of Your Life
By Byron Morrison
Genre:-Self Help
Pages:-200
Blurb:-After years of being his own worst enemy. Byron Morrison knows exactly how frustrating the never-ending cycle of hard work, expectation, and minimal results can be. Maybe You Should Give Up is Morrison's answer to the question: how can anyone achieve their dreams if hard work isn't enough?
It seems like every self-help book and personal development program is the same these days, preaching that if someone just does more and pushes harder, they can achieve the life of their dreams. This expectation doesn't  often work with long-term results, which leaves many people to face the unfortunate reality of never reaching their goals.
Why? Because despite their good intentions, they get in their own way, sabotaging themselves and becoming the biggest stumbling block in the way of their success.
Tired of going 'round in circles, Bryon Morrison realized he needed to do something different. He gave up-not on his goals and dreams, accepting a life of mediocrity lying on the couch-but on being controlled by fear. He gave up living in the past. He gave up comparing himself to others. He gave up on being so hard on himself. And he gave up putting off his happiness.
And it worked. He was able to get out of his own way and finally take control of his life.
Maybe You Should Give Up explains how to throw out the rule book, break the mold and do something different. Byron Morrison's approach helps readers identify 7 areas of their life that cause them to get in their own way and keep them stuck in a self-destructive cycle; he models how to give up on what holds a person back-to finally take control of the life they want and deserve.

My Review:-I wasn't sure on this book, was it going to be like every other self-help book, well the answer is NO. Byron gives you the tools to help you take control of  your own life, showing you techniques to stop blaming yourself. We let fear get in our way and we need to learn not to. Fear is in our head, we need to learn to break the cycle of getting stuck in our own head. I found it an easy to read book and the steps are easy to do. I would of like a place where you could use it as a workbook, but I found highlighters work the same.

My Review:-My Granddaughter Emily and I read this book together. We meet Soso on the morning of her 9th birthday, she was so excited for her party that she was having in the afternoon. Soso and her mother go to pick her brother up, but he wasn't ready to go, so Soso played in the garden near by. Soso was transported to a place she didn't know, and is welcomed by Jaiyle a man calling her 'Your Highness.' She explained her name wasn't Asobi, it was Soso and she lived in Ikoyi. Jaiyle tells her about the entire kingdom being under a spell casted by Adetola and she must help save them, by going to the castle and taking the pedant from Adetola. Once Soso save the kingdom, it's time for her to go home as it's time for her party. Soso enjoys her party and the games. The next day she opens her presents and there is one that she didn't know who it was from, until she opened it, it was from Jaiyle and the other people she saved. It was lovely to see that Soso accepted that her birth mark was special, and nothing that she needed to hide.
This was a lovely book and the illustrations were beautiful and went well with the story.

The Roughest Draft

The Roughest Draft
By Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka
Genre:-Contemporary Romantic Fiction
Pages:-336
Publisher:-PanMacmillan
Blurb:-Escape with the most funny, charming and uplifting romantic comedy debut of the year!
For fans of Emily Henry's Book Lovers, The Roughest Draft is the debut adult novel from Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka.
Their romance was a bestseller. Too bad it was all fiction....
Three years ago, Katrina Freeling and Nathan Van Huysen were the brightest literary stars on the horizon, their co-written book topping bestseller lists. But on the heels of their greatest success, they ended their partnership on bad terms, for reasons neither would divulge to the public. They haven't spoken since, and never planned to, except they have one final book due on contract.
Facing crossroads in their personal and professional lives, they're forced to reunite. The last thing they ever thought they'd do again is hole up in the tiny Florida town where they wrote their previous book, trying to finish new manuscript quickly and painlessly. Working through the reasons they've hated each other for the past three years isn't easy, especially not while writing a romantic novel.
While passion and prose push them closer together in the Florida heat, Katrina and Nathan will learn that relationships, like writing, sometimes take a few rough drafts before they get it right.

My review:-We have two famous authors, Katrina Freeling and Nathan Van Huysen. Katrina and Nathan have wrote a best seller, but something has happened that they no longer want to talk of have anything to do with each, and they don't want to talk about it either. But there is one big problem, a contract they both signed to say they must do one more book together. They meet back up in Florida to write the novel together. To write the novel they have to first find themselves and work on their relationship before they can work on their novel. It's not easy writing a novel when the two authors hate each other. I found this an enjoyable book to read.

Mother Melania is the Abbess of Holy Assumption Monastery in Calistoga, CA. She grew up in a house that always had tons of children around, her poor parents had to read to her till they were hoarse, and from the moment she learned to read, she always had her nose in a book. So, it was only natural for her to grow up to write children's books.
she has written three series of specifically Orthodox children's books-all in verse-which celebrate the high points of God's work of salvation in the Person of Christ. Her remaining series teach children the virtues in a fun, non-preachy way.

We liked trying to guess what name was going to be picked and we liked the name that he got in the end, we think it suited him. The book is easy to read and the pictures will appeal to younger children, that can't read the book. Just using the pictures in the book you can tell your own story. After reading this book we talked about how we picked our dogs name, and what other names that we had before deciding on her name Abby.

A court at Constantinople

A Court at Constantinople
By Anthony Earth
Genre:-Historical
Pages:-358
Blurb:-It is dangerous for lawyers and lovers when civilisations clash.
Under coercion, James Bingham, a struggling English barrister, joins Her Britannic Majesty's Supreme Consular Court at Constantinople. Osman Mehmed, a brilliant Turkish law student, loathes the British court, but the Ottoman government orders him to work with it on legal reform. Angry about injustices that women suffer, Rosamund Colborne initiates a relationship with James to escape a grim future dictated by her ruthless father.
The court's cases and the courtship's twists intertwine the fates of Mehmed, James and Rosamund and force each to question what love and justice mean. With the Ottoman and British empires increasingly at odds, power, prejudice, and passions endanger the court, the heart's desires, and the relationship between the European and Islamic civilisations.
At this precarious moment, a brutal crime threatens to destroy what law and affection have created. The trail reveals shocking secrets, and its violent end rouse courage by rosamund, James, and Mehmed to see justice done and love prevail.

My review:-The story is set in 1800s in Constantinople. The legal system isn't the same in Constantinople as it is in England, as James Bingham finds out. Osman Mehmed is a great Turkish law student and doesn't like anything about the British courts, buts gets told to work with it and also work with James. Rosamund Colborne might be in a muslin country, that doesn't think much of women, as the justice system has shown her and others. Rosamund wants to do what she can, but its not easy with a father that dictates everything she does. James and Rosamund start a relationship which is against everything especially her father. There is so much going on in this book, it took me longer than normal to read it. There is a lot of legal terms, some I wasn't sure of.

My Review:-Hector isn't like any other lawyer, he knows what's right and he'll stop at nothing to prove it. He  is given a highly important assignment, something that could rock the government. Hector knows it's not going to be an easy job, but that's the sort of thing he likes.  I enjoyed the storyline, it had me guessing what was next for Hector. I found it a exciting read and will be reading more from Mark.

Bliss Road

Bliss Road
By Martha Engber
Genre:-Non-fiction/Memoir
Publisher:- Vine Leaves Press
Blurb:- BLISS ROAD is the story of a neurotypical daughter of an undiagnosed Autism Spectrum Disorder parent. Sometimes funny, often devastating, Martha Engber's honest and moving memoir illuminates the parent-child challenge presented by a neurological condition that affects over 75 million people worldwide.
A hybrid of poetry and essays, Ms. Engber uses personal anecdotes, coupled with historical research and current statistics, to explain the emergence of autism over the last hundred years. She includes the birth of Asperger's, or high-functioning autism, as a formal diagnosis in 1994, the year her young nephew's condition was determined.
After describing the psychological, emotional and social challenges she faced as a child, then as an adult and parent, she explains the method by which she changed her thinking and behaviour to both celebrate her parents and heal. She ends by encouraging others to chase down the source of their family angst to reach a more blissful future.
A fascinating and encouraging journey of discovering the seemingly undiscoverable, Bliss Road combines the intimacy and warmth of Tuesday With Morrie and the empowerment demonstrated by Shonda Rhimes in Year of Yes!

My Review:-One day you think you have no worries and by answering a phone call everything goes upside down. Martha get's a phone call, her sister is ringing to tell her that Brian her nephew has been diagnosed  with Asperger Syndrome. Martha is wondering if this is hereditary?  Could this be why  her dad's  behaviour is erratic. Being someone that has work with young and older children with ASD and other needs, I found this very interesting to read. Things have moved on since 1990s but I don't think peoples reactions have, you still get looks.

My Review:-I read this book with my grandkids. We loved the that there was so much we could talk about on each page, that we made our own story up after we read the book. We loved when the Beavers were having a party on the water and invited other creature to join in the fun. Each page had it's own story. This book would make any child happy, even if they are to young to understand the story, the colourful pictures and cute creatures will keep them entertained. It's a book that we will be reading many more times.

My Review:-Janey Hallahan runs her late fathers Empire with some help from her husband Ciaran. Janey isn't someone to be messed with, but she's also loyal to her employee. When Danny Mcinroy takes over his stepfather's club he doesn't like the fact that Janey is his boss. Danny hates women and he's not going to take his orders from Janey, but Janey is one step ahead of Danny. Will she remove him or will him stop and listen?
It was nice to see a strong women is the main character, it made the plot more interesting for me. The story has everything you want in a gangland thriller, plenty of twists and turns, some I didn't see coming. I'm looking forward to see what Alex has next for Janey.

My Review:-Matthew Gidson new what he was doing when he wrote this book.  I can see where Bram Stoker got his Dracula from. Matthew has took both history and known novels together and made a book that is full of everything you could want in a book. We meet some interesting characters a long the way through this story. The story begins on stage at Lyceum, where Bram Stoker is acting manager and it end's with the creation of  Bram Stoker Dracula, is this a anagram of Curdala's as Irving protested it did. I have to say when it came to writing this review I wasn't sure where to start. Matthew has put so much work into this book and I read it in one sitting as it draw me in and I needed to know more.
If you like, gothic, history, thriller, mystery, this book has it all. It's a must read from me

My Review:-I wanted to read this book, as myself and other family members have all been through miscarriages and at the time nothing much was said or done to help you through it. There parts that I could relate to and would of been a great help. I like how Victoria has added poetry to the book, it is a lovely touch. Victoria shares her story and knows first hand how you feel inside. This book would also be helpful to those that are going through a miscarriage with you, as at times these people are often forgotten. I would like to say a big 'Thank You' to Victoria for sharing her story.
